Focus question #1: What are the implications of the research in science of learning for teachers?

·         The latest research of science of learning emphasizes active engagement and a focus on meta-cognitive thinking to build what has been called student centered or knowledge production approach to teaching.

·         Such research finding represent a challenge to instructional methods that feature mainly lectures and presentations y teachers to students- what can be called teacher-centered or knowledge reproduction approach to teaching.

Summary:

                The chapter focused on how technology can change teaching and learning in schools. It should inspired students to learn and use their creativity. Actively engage student with a lot of visual learning. It talked about different things to be visual components in teaching; example, video, internet sites, graphing calculators. And how we can engage student with things like online surveys, and discussion boards.

Tech Tool:

                Poetry 180: A Poem A Day for American High Schools (www.loc.gov/poetry/180). Poems for everyday of the school year (from the library of congress).

Blog Post #1

Focus Question 1:
      How do new technologies create new opportunities for teaching and learning?
- Educational technologies offer exciting, engaging, and effective alternatives to traditional instructional methods.
-Computer technologies can be used in ways that promote high levels f interaction and engagement among teachers and students. 
-Web 2.0 tools are a new generation of technologies that can be used to create highly interactive, inquiry-based learning experiences at all grade levels.

Summary:
    The chapter talked a lot about the advantages and some disadvantages of technology. I agree that there are many new way to help children learn and keep them engaged in what they are learning. It is important as future educators to stay up to date with the technology and not get behind what is going on in the present. Some of the statistic blew my mind, for example " Nearly all children (99%) live in a home with a TV set, half (50%) have a TV set in their bedroom..." So we can see how important technology is in the lives of today's youth, and over time how much more it will become.

I didn't do the Tech Tool... I couldn't understand it. 

Blog Post

General Information:

Post meaningful and reflective responses to chapter text assignments using a blogging tool (i.e., Blogger). Each blog post should include all of the following:

• Answer one of the focus questions listed at the beginning of the chapter,
• Explore and share your perspective of one of the chapter's Tech Tool links, and
• Summarize the chapter and provide a personal connection your learning

Focus on the basic reflective content needed for the initial postings. After a few postings, stretch your content responses with links to additional research and expand your technology skills with added images and embedded videos. Though this reflective writing does not need to prioritize academic writing, be sure to provide credit at some level to avoid plagiarism.

The purpose of the creating reflective journal posts is to help you read the book chapters with engagement. It is an opportunity to really make meaning with the text (i.e., take it apart, manipulate it, look for its heart, chunk it into meaningful bits, etc.) Journal blog posts will help you with the critical art of understanding, summarizing, and, most importantly, making reading personal to you!
